Metepec is a small isolated village in the shadow of the volcano Popocatepetl.

VAMOS! started working with the people of Metepec in 2010.  This small village of roughly 2000 residents sits high in the mountains, close to the volcano Popocatepetl, the second highest mountain in Mexico at 17, 802 feet.  It is very isolated, about a two hour drive from Cuernavaca and very poor with little or no opportunity for residents. Statistically the village is listed as an area of extreme poverty.  The people of Metepec met for close to a year with VAMOS!, organizing and deciding where to locate our program.  With the town firmly decided that they needed and wanted VAMOS! we were able to rent some land close to one of the oldest Dominican churches in Central America.  The people asked for our meals program, our academic program, computers, music, a program for women and also a program for their elderly.
